1. Communicate to fully understand the child and family’s history, strengths and challenges.
  2. Collaborate with parents/guardians to develop a plan of treatment that fully addresses the child’s behavioral and emotional needs and their family system.
  3. Engage the child and their family in a working relationship to assist with reaching goals of positive change, while remaining open to unexpected adjustments that may be necessary to each individualized plan.
  4. Provide healthy closure to the therapeutic relationship in order to maximize carryover of positive changes to the child’s life outside of therapy as well as their ongoing development.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy Zone was founded in Fall 2006 by Kristy Cavalli, MSW, LICSW, Registered Play Therapist & Supervisor, and Carol Schneweis, MSW, LICSW, to provide a specialized play therapy setting in Grand Forks and the greater Red River Valley. Specializing in children ages 2-12 and their families, PTZ aims to help children dealing with stress and/or trauma as a result of abuse, neglect, out of home placement, adoption, family change, bereavement or conflicts at school. We also help children manage behavioral and emotional difficulties such as anger, anxiety, attachment and other relationship hardships, ADHD, depression and unsatisfactory social skills.

On May 31, 2016, Kristy Cavalli, MSW, LICSW, and the Play Therapy Zone joined Assessment and Therapy Associates of Grand Forks.

With a creative, child-centered environment, Play Therapy Zone has helped hundreds of children and families address their challenges and ensure that the children are on the proper track developmentally. We do this by focusing on four steps:
